Fire Concerns:

With the heat we experienced, the historic low water levels, and the past fire on Hook Road, we thought it might be timely to collectively review fire mitigation options for our area. The new fire hall being constructed across the river will only provide service to the West End of the Rivershore Property based on an 8 km road limit. However, it is not clear if it’s 8km’s by road or a straight line from the Fire Station. It would still take 25-30 minutes marshalling/travel time from the Hook Road fire station to our area. Here are some thoughts for discussion:

  • Inventory of equipment that might be available from folks
  • Would we have enough folks in the area who would be able and willing to fight a fire if it occurred on your or your neighbours property?
  • Liability Issues/Insurance and Indemnification of fire fighting on someone else’s property
  • Possibility of approaching TNRD for fire training assistance - a presentation from the TNRD at Rivershore Thursday, the 26th of October at 1000.
  • BC Hydro Liason
  • Jeff Boyle, who is the fire chief at Rivershore, would be willing to meet with us and review fire mitigation strategies
  • Rivershore has sold their old fire truck
  • It is doubtful that house insurance can be reduced with a fire plan but might be worth exploring
  • Sharing of Names, Addresses, Phone Numbers, email addresses and availability etc for a contact list
  • What happens to those not part of this group that requests fire fighting assistance?
  • I have created a website called http://shuswaproad.ca (early stages) that could be used to keep folks informed with progress and issues (password protected)
  • Oher items fire related?
  • Other community issues – nighbourhood watch etc?
